When Sheffield hit his 500th homer, I was shocked at the huge show of love he got from the dugout. Not surprised so much by the show, but surprised at the seeming sincerity of it. Is this another one of those things where Sheffield isn’t nice to the media douches but is a great teammate. I’d say yes, but then I remember him intentionally dropping fly balls to get his way.

Maybe I’m crazy, but could Gary Sheffield actually offer the veteran leadership this team has been lacking?
