1) Could the Mets hit in to anymore unassisted double plays? It seems like sending the runner automatically translates to double play. It seems like this team is hitting in to brutal luck early in the series.
2) I’m glad to see that Jeff Kent’s moustache didn’t retire when Jeff Kent did. I [...]

The response to Daniel Murphy’s 8th inning error which eventually led to two runs is laughably predictable in the New York media today. Everything from “he’s not ready to be a big league player” to “this is a win-now team that can’t afford to have a guy learning on the job.”
The thing I don’t [...]

Watching Game 11 (the 1-0 win over the Brewers) finally made me realize that it’s a new year. Watching Putz and K-Rod put away a 1-0 with no drama and no roller coaster was amazing. I’d forgotten what that could be like.
1) Nelson Figureoa vs. Jeff Suppan has the chance to be the [...]

When Sheffield hit his 500th homer, I was shocked at the huge show of love he got from the dugout. Not surprised so much by the show, but surprised at the seeming sincerity of it. Is this another one of those things where Sheffield isn’t nice to the media douches but is a [...]

1) I am so happy they’ve continued to improve the subway service from Manhattan to the ballpark. The terrible, 6 turnstiles through a stupid iron tower choke-point is gone, replaced with a huge staircase leading up to something like 20 turnstiles. On top of that, they’ve kept the post-game “Super Express” service that [...]

1) Was there anyone in the fanbase who thought today was going to be anything other than an unmitigated disaster? I mean, we have Ollie who — on the best of days — has control problems making his first start after a worthless spring. On top of that, we’re in a minor [...]

1) I’m absurdly happy to see Daniel Murphy get the 2-hole over Luis Castillo. I totally agree that Castillo should be given the chance to earn his way up in the line-up but if you’re going to convince the world that Murphy is the answer to Manny Ramirez, put him up in the [...]

That Bootleg Guy and I shot a few e-mails back and forth this week talking about the MLB Over/Unders this week and it turned itself in to a blog post. In the interest of full disclosure, I did not actually lay money on any of these as I’m still actively preventing myself from the [...]

Gary Sheffield: 2008 - Detroit Tigers. 2009 - $400k: Take it away Mr. Hulse.
So let me get this straight….
If the Mets sign Sheffield for $400k and he sucks, they cut him and lose $400k.
If the Mets sign Sheffield for $400k and he finds the Wayback Machine (i.e: “flaxseed oil”) and hits like [...]
