Tom: Metsblog an others in the Mets universe seem to be obsessed with Val Pascucci getting a look over Delgado or Anderson
Tom: He’s 30, has always had great numbers in AAA and has never even gotten a look.
Tom: isn’t that a red-flag?
Mike: kinda
Mike: ryan church didn’t get a look til he was 28 tho
Mike: ryan howard was 27 when he got a callup, workin out ok
Tom: hrm
Mike: but it is kind of a flag
Tom: he used to be in the Expos farm
Tom: which means that Omar must have liked him enough to keep him close
Tom: I don’t understand why the Mets are so obsessed with .193’s worth Marlon Anderson
Mike: he did get a look in 2004
Mike: hit .177
Mike: 25 games
Mike: that’s all the look you need to say not good enough
Tom: he doesn’t even have minor league stats for 05 and 06
Tom: hm
Mike: well that Delgado character at 1b kinda blocks the way
Tom: he plays OF too
Tom: which is kind of their argument
Tom: that the mets need a decent right-handed 1B/OF bench guy
Mike: I agree
Mike: however…..
Mike: .177 in 2004
Mike: hitting .230 right now
Mike: not exactly lightin up the world
Tom: .305
Tom: since coming to the Mets
Tom: 200 AB
Tom: ah
Tom: Pascucci spent the 2006 season with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Pacific League. On April 6, 2007, Pascucci was signed by the Florida Marlins and spent the season with their Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes. In December 2007, Pascucci signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. After being released by the Phillies on April 29, Pascucci signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets a few days later.
Mike: gotcha
Mike: bottom line, i don’t see why a guy who’s only had 1 other season like this in the minors ever gets a look after 60 games
Tom: I think maybe because he can’t be any worse than what they’re playing in the outfield right now?
Mike: he sure could be
Mike: how’s this
Mike: if you believe marlon anderson will continue to be a .190 hitter all season, i’d agree
Mike: however, if i had to be on either anderson picking it up and playing better, or bet on this guy to come up to the majors and hit .300…….
Mike: i’m probably betting on anderson
Tom: Anderson’s been an every day player for like a month now
Mike: ok, how many times has the AAA sensation hit .190 in the majors?
Mike: answer?
Mike: never
Tom: but you’re basing that on a small sample from three years ago
Tom: no?
Mike: it’s all i got
Mike: plus, the fact that he’s kind of ahead of his minor league #’s
Mike: and his time with the mets is a small sample also
Mike: i’m officially off board with this AAA vascucci character
Mike: my bandwagon seat is availible
Mike: and you know what convinced me?
Mike: amazingly…..old quote from Mike Francesa earlier in the year
Mike: “what is it with you met fans? any guy has like a good month, and you’re all ready to throw him into Cooperstown….we don’t need moises alou, we got angel pagan!!”
