I’d like to say that the loss to the Mariners disturbs me, but it doesn’t. I’ve watched another team do this for years. The New York Giants have a terrible tendency to play down to their competition. The Mets seem to do that now. They got shut out by the worst team in baseball. It happens. The very last thing this team needs to do is something crazy because of one game.

Look, this series against Seattle is a joke. It’s an ill-timed joke — but a joke, nonetheless. In the coming week the Mets will face the Yankees for 4, the Cardinals for 4, and the Phillies for 4. Next week will tell us all we need to know about this team. The temperature of the team will be taken over the next 12 games. There is no reason to over-react to a series that doesn’t matter when there is plenty that matters in the next 14 days.

And is this, officially, the first emotion we’ve seen out of Carlos Beltran since he came to the Mets? Seems liked the New York crowd enjoyed seeing him all fired up.
