The Mets are 30-30, 3rd place, and 6 games back. This is the second of a four game set in Petco Park in San Diego where the Mets are down 0-2.

1) As was mentioned previously… Ryan Church is out of the line-up again tonight and is obviously not right. He still had doll’s eyes on Friday and isn’t right. Put him on the DL. Now. Yesterday. Whenever. We can live with Tatis/Beltran/Endy for a couple weeks. Let’s not create this precedent that a guy’s long -term health is less important than winning ball-games.
2) I had no ideas that Ollie Perez was averaging 6.5 BB/9 IP. That is……. horrifying.
3) Keith mentions that if he would have two days off he might not really get his rest the night before. David Wright, on the other hand, would. He may reward himself with three chocolate chip cookies and quart of skim milk. The man has to treat himself sometimes and as an All-American, wonderful human being — this is his reward.
4) The lack of Moises Alou became very, very, painfully obviously in the top of the third inning. Carlos Delgado knocks Wright over to third with a two out double. Following Delgado: Fernando Tatis. Now, Tatis gave us a nice win the other night, but he almost immediately went down 0-2 and later struck out. Keith mentioned his hustle as something to like about him — I’d prefer hits and walks. Of course, he’s a member of the Ex-Expo Supahstars so maybe I need to give him more time.
5) Gary’s explanation of how the Mets are handling Church’s injury is unacceptable. You can’t give Church the green-card to figure out if he’s OK to play. He’s obviously not. Athletes who have never had concussions don’t know how to deal with concussions. It is a much better investment for him to take 15-20 straight days off now than have him be off the rest of the season. Put him on the DL and a train back to New York tonight. He never should have taken this west coast trip. The excuse that “no one in baseball knows as much about concussions as other sports” is equally unacceptable. You’re in a city where the team doctors can call the Rangers, Islanders, Giants, Jets, and Devils to ask their staff doctors for a consult. Friggin put him on the DL before you let him hurt himself.
6) When Ollie goes south, he goes south quickly. I’m glad to see that Willie is, at least, starting to get a feel for when it’s over. And here I was going to compliment him on how he bounced back and didn’t let the home run get to him.
7) And I stayed up until 1 am for three consecutive nights to watch three consecutive 2-1 losses. I hate the Padres and their stupid ballpark.

So, apparently 10 thoughts isn’t always going to mean 10 thoughts.
